How to Apply

Kress Institutional and Travel Fellowships are awarded to pre-doctoral candidates in the history of art while Conservation Fellowships are awarded to art conservators in the final stages of their preparation for professional careers, and Interpretive Fellowships at Art Museums are given to art museum curators and educators.  Please carefully review the specific requirements for each Fellowship application.

History of Art: Institutional Fellowships

  • Institutional Fellowship Application Form
  • Additional questions (found in the Institutional Fellowship Application Guidelines download)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • A transcript from the university where you received your M.A.
  • Three letters of evaluation, of which one must be from the Chairman of the Art History Department
  • Self-addressed, stamped postcard to acknowledge receipt of application
  • Application Deadline: November 30

Fellowships FAQ

Q: Do I have to be nominated to apply for a fellowship?

A: There are different requirements for each fellowship.  History of Art Travel and Institutional Fellowships: candidates must be nominated by their academic department. Conservation Fellowships: applications must be submitted by the museum or conservation research facility that will host the fellowship. Interpretive Art Museum Fellowships: applications must be submitted by the museum that will host the fellowship.

 

Q: Can I apply for a fellowship online?

A: No. Presently the Kress Foundation only accepts applications in printed form.
