the 19th century, the Kress Foundation nurtures excellence
in the study, conservation, and presentation of this heritage
through programs that focus on

FOSTERING PROFESSIONAL
RESOURCES

Preparation of essential human, academic,
and scientific resources and expertise for the highest quality
of professional performance in archaeology, art historical
scholarship, and the conservation of European art and architecture.
Kress Fellowships support the professional
training of archaeologists, archivists, art historians, art
librarians, conservators, conservation scientists, curators,
and preservationists. Essential Resources
help to gather and disseminate accurate information through
catalogues, databases, journals, photographic archives, publications,
and other compendia. Sharing of Expertise
encourages direct exchange of research and experience through
conferences, symposia, and other professional meetings.

CONSERVING EUROPEAN ART
AND ARCHITECTURE

Historically accurate conservation of works
of European art and artistically significant European architecture.
The Kress Collection Conservation Program
cares for works of art in the Kress Collection and trains
young paintings conservators. The Kress Foundation
European Preservation Program sponsors the conservation
of exceptional European heritage in the field. |
INTERPRETING EUROPEAN ART IN REGARD
TO ORIGINAL CONTEXT

Presentations that promote
the contemplation of specific works of art in light of their
original place and purpose in human life.
Old Masters in Context focuses on the display of
European art in relation to its historic function and meaning,
enlarging the public’s capacity to understand and
enjoy the art of the past. |
