(Giuseppe Salvadori). Achillito Chiesa, Milan, by 1925; [1] (Alessandro Contini Bonacossi [1878-1955] Rome-Florence), probably by 1928; [2] sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 10 October 1936; gift 1939 to the National Gallery of Art; deaccessioned in 1952 and returned to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; gift 1961 to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, no. F61-59. [1] Raimond van MarIe, Italian Schools of Painting, vol. V, 1925, pp. 473-474, locates the painting in a private collection in Milan, probabaly Chiesa. The painting did not appear in any of the auctions of the Achillito Chiesa collection: American Art Association, New York, November 27, 1925; April 16, 1926; November 22-23, 1927; April 24, 1930. [2] Hans D, Gronau, "Notes on Trecento Painting:Some unpublished Works by Jacopo di Casentino," Burlington Magazine, vol. 53, no. 305 (August 1928), p. 82, places it in a private collection in Florence, while footnoting van Marle as citing it in Milan and attributing it to Taddeo Gaddi (see note 1).
