(Böhler and Steinmeyer, Lucerne) as early as 1927; acquired in full 27 February 1933 by (Julius Böhler, Munich); acquired c. 1937 by (Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi [1878-1955] Rome-Florence); [1] sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 18 June 1937; gift to the National Gallery of Art in 1939 ; deaccessioned 1952 and returned to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; gift to Denver Art Museum, no. 1961.159. [1] See Böhler inventory card no. 17-33, Getty Research Institute. Julius Böhler's son had established Böhler and Steinmeyer in Lucerne c. 1920. The painting was advertised jointly in the 9 December 1933 issue of Art News.
