[1] According to Fern Rusk Shapley, Paintings from the Samuel H. Kress Collection, Italian Schools XVI-XVIII Century, London, 1973, p. 34, the painting was included but unsold at the Hearstsale, Hammer Galleries, New York, 1941, but this does not appear to be the case. Hearst inventory notes that Nash's Magazine (one of Hearst's magazines) purchased the painting "5/31/29 [probably 5/3/29?]; the painting was at San Simeon after January 17, 1930; transferred December 1, 1937 to American Newspapers, Inc.
