Provenance
Santa Catalina Mártir, Valencia, España, 1536-1584. [1] Gremio de Plateros de Valencia known also as Confraternity of St. Eligius Valencia, in 1751; Anonymous Collection, Madrid. Gherard Collection, Paris. Anonymous collection, Southern France. (Salocchi, Florence). (International Financing and Co, Panama); sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 30 November 1956 as Lorenzo Lotto; gift to University of Arizona Museum of Art in 1961, no. 1961.013.019. [1] Commissioned for the Capilla del Gremio de Plateros by the Gremio de Plateros in 1536; retable severely damaged by fire in 1584 and apparently dismantled in 1586; the Gremio commissioned a second retable from Francisco Ribalta in 1607 for the Capilla, copying the panels by Juan de Juanes (presumably the original panels were thus still in the church).
